Admiral Brinkley, born 1809, a son of Jacob Brinkley (1780) was a farmer in Nansemond County, married Margaret J. Saunders, daughter of Job Saunders.
    
      Children:

      Robert Beverly Brinkley, born January 27, 1836 was a Confederate Soldier, Civil War Captain, 41st VA Infantry, Co. I (Mahone’s brigade). He was killed May 25, 1864 in skirmish at Hanover Junction.  D

      John Randolph Brinkley, Confederate Soldier, born October 22, 1837, married Mary Eliza Roundtree, born July 28, 1839, married March 21 1861. John R. Brinkley died at his home in Nansemond County, VA in 1884. Mary E. (Roundtree) Brinkley died June 13, 1914.   D

      Mary E. Brinkley, born 1839.

      Hugh Griffin Brinkley, born August 15, 1840, married Susan Catherine Daughtrey, born 1847. Hugh was a Confederate lieutenant in Mahone’s brigade. He was captured and remained a prisoner until after the surrender. He was later a businessman in Norfolk, Virginia until he died 1869.  D

Jason Brinkley (1) A
(1813-1925)

Jason Brinkley was born in 1813 in Nansemond County, VA. He married Elizabeth, born 1822 in Nansemond County.

      Jackson Richard Brinkley, born January 20, 1840, married Mary E. Brinkley, born 1839, daughter of Abram and Nancy Knight Brinkley. 8 children.  D

      Nathaniel Brinkley, born January 20, 1847, married Sarah Elizabeth Brinkley, daughter of James Wesley and Amanda Wilkins Brinkley. Nathaniel died February 3, 1925. Sarah Elizabeth Brinkley died September 15, 1925.   D

William Henry died November 23, 1879, buried at Glebe Church Cemetery, Bennett’s Creek, Suffolk, Virginia. Inscription:

James Henry Brinkley, born September 19, 1840 married Mary Elizabeth Powell, born February 4, 1843.

James Henry Brinkley died August 31, 1912 and is buried at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.  Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Brinkley died April 7, 1913 and is buried at Cypress Chapel Cemetery.

Benjamin Brinkley was born about 1813.  He married in March 1834 to Mary E. Bowen, born about 1814 in Pender County, NC. She died in 1897 at 83 and is buried at Mt. Holly Baptist Church Cemetery in Pender County, North Carolina. Benjamin was a farmer. He never returned from Civil War.

     Boney Southerland Brinkley was born August 5, 1849 in New Hanover County, North Carolina, married (1) Mariah D. Garris (2) Hazeltine Judson Garris.   D





Boney Southerland Brinkley (1) A
(1849-1926)

Boney Southerland Brinkley was born August 5, 1849 in New Hanover County, North Carolina, a son of Benjamin and Mary Bowen Brinkley. Boney married on May 10, 1872 to Mariah D.Garris, daughter of Garned James Garris, a son of John Garris. She was born in 1847 in North Carolina. After Mariah’s (Maria) death in 1882, Boney Southerland Brinkley married Mariah’s first cousin, Hazeltine Garris, daughter of Rufus Washington Garris, a son of John Garris.

     Emma Brinkley, married Will Blackmon.

Boney Southerland Brinkley married again, November 02, 1882, to Hazeltine Judson Garris, born August 4, 1847, a daughter of Rufus Washington “Reet” Garris, a son of John Garris.

      Alphus Brinkley, born February 1885, Pender County, died April 12, 1935.

Boney Southerland Brinkley died July 24, 1926  and is buried in Garris Cemetery, in Watha, Pender County, North Carolina. (Observation: Boney may be a nickname for Bonapart.)

Hazeltine Judson (Garris) Brinkley died March 6, 1937, and is buried at Garris Cemetery.




William Graham Brinkley (1) A
(1875-1928)

William Graham Brinkley was born in 1875, a son of Boney Southerland Brinkley (1849) and wife Mariah Garrison. He married Mary MacDonald West, born 1879.  They lived at Wilmington, North Carolina.

Children:

      Mary W. Brinkley, born April 22, 1903, married William H. West. She died November 18, 1964, buried at Oakdale Cemetery.

      Margaret Brinkley, born 1904.

      Jesse G. Brinkley, born 1907, died 1970, buried at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, NC.

     
      William Graham Brinkley, Jr., born 1910, married Ida Belle Gaskins. He was a postal worker; died in 1974. He is buried at Oakdale Cemetery at Wilmington, NC.

      David McClure Brinkley, born July 10, 1920.  He died June 12, 2003 at 83.   D

David McClure Brinkley (1) A
(1920-2003)

David McClure Brinkley, born July 10, 1920, a son of William (Willy) Graham Brinkley (1875) and wife Mary MacDonald West. David married Ann Fischer.

Children:

     Alan Brinkley, (Historian and provost of Columbia University.)

     Joel Brinkley, (Correspondent for New York Times).

     John Brinkley. (Director of U.S. Institute for Peace.)


David and Ann Fischer divorced.  He married again in 1972 to Susan Adolph.

Child of Susan’s marriage to Peter Adolph:

    Alexis Rose West Brinkley (Collins), (daughter of Susan Adolph), whom Mr. Brinkley adopted, married at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Washington to Jeremiah Collins, a son of Joan and Jeremiah C. Collins of Bethesda, Md.

David Brinkley was a news reporter who became the anchor for NBC Evening News for many years.

David McClure Brinkley died June 11, 2003. He is buried at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Lazarus Parke Brinkley (1) A
(1844-1910)

Lazarus Parke Brinkley was born June 17, 1844, a son of Jackson (1810) and Martha Amanda (Parker) Brinkley.  He married Sarah Elizabeth Rogers born October 7, 1845, a daughter of Jonathan and Mary Eliza Rogers.

Children:

      Fairlie Flavious Brinkley, born December 21, 1870 in Nansemond County, Virginia, married Mary Emily Culver.  D

      Mary Brinkley, born January 25, 1875, married Ashburn. She died August 28, 1959.

      Susie Brinkley, born March 28, 1877, married Brown. She died July 31, 1935.

      Cecilia Brinkley, born April 16, 1886, died January 12, 1897.

Lazarus was a soldier in the 24th Virginia Calvary, Co. I.
Lazarus Parke Brinkley died November 23, 1910, buried at Liberty Springs Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.  Sarah Elizabeth (Rogers) Brinkley died March 11, 1916.



Phillip Beverly Brinkley (1) A
(1844-1928)

Phillip Beverly Brinkley, born June 14, 1844, a son of Abram and Nancy (Knight) Brinkley of Nansemond County, VA. Phillip married on February 22, 1866 to Armesis C. Franklin, born November 7, 1848, daughter of Javan Riddick and Jane Rebecca Lee Eppes Franklin. 

Children:

      Wilber Hamlin Brinkley, born April 11, 1867, died June 22, 1903, buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.

      Adana Brinkley, born 1869.

Five other children.


Phillip B. Brinkley was a farmer and became a Lieutenant in Civil War. He was a member of the Tom Smith Camp.

Phillip Beverly Brinkley died April 29, 1928, buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Suffolk, VA.
Armesia Christian Eppes (Franklin) Brinkley died March 27,  1937 and is buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Suffolk, VA.

Fairlie Flavious Brinkley, born December 21, 1870 in Nansemond County, Virginia, a son of Lazarus Parke Brinkley (1844) and wife Martha Amanda (Parker) married Mary Emily Culver in Boulder, Colorado, born May 17, 1875, daughter of Robert and Annie (Kennicot) Culver.

      Parke C. Brinkley, born July 31, 1915, married Dorothy Holland, born September 16, 1914, daughter of Richard and Martha (Pierce) Holland.

Mary Emily (Culver) Brinkley died January 18, 1959, Richmond, VA, buried at Liberty Springs Christian Church Cemetery.

Norman Brinkley was born March 31, 1849 a son of Abram and Nancy Knight Brinkley. He married to Julia Franklin, born November 22, 1853, daughter of Simon and Emaline (Brothers) Franklin.

Children:

      Bertha Inez Brinkley, born July 23, 13, 1890, died July 27, 1969.

Norman Brinkley died in October, 1929, and is buried at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.  Julia (Franklin) Brinkley died in 1942 and is buried next to her husband.

Nathaniel Brinkley, born January 20, 1847, a son of Jason and Elizabeth E. Brinkley, married Sarah Elisabeth Brinkley, born March 27, 1847, a daughter of James Wesley and Amanda Wilkins Brinkley.

Children:

      Barnes W. Brinkley, born March 5, 1877, 1-married Mollie V. Jones, 2-Kate Josephine Jones.

      Lovett Brinkley, born January 27, 1887, died July 19, 1965. PFC in the U. S. Army, WWI. Buried at Cypress Chapel Cemetery.


Nathaniel Brinkley died February 3, 1925 and is buried at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.  Sarah Elizabeth Brinkley died September 15, 1925 and is buried next to her husband.



Robert Beverly Brinkley (1) A
(1836-1864)

Robert Beverly Brinkley was born January 27, 1836, a son of Admiral and Margaret Jane (Saunders) Brinkley of Nansemond County, Virginia.  He was the superintendent of Cypress Chapel Christian Church Sabbath School.  He was killed in the Civil War on May 25, 1864 at Hanover Junction.

(Approximately 7600 Union and 3800 Confederate wounded soldiers were processed through Hanover Junction, en route to hospitals in York, Harrisburg and Baltimore.)

(1840-1913)

Jackson Richard Brinkley, born January 20, 1840, a son of Jason and Elizabeth Brinkley, married on February 22, 1866 to Mary E. Brinkley, born 1839, daughter of Abram and Nancy (Knight) Brinkley.
8 children: (the following was found in the 1870 U. S. Census of Nansemond County.)

      Nancy J. Brinkley born 1861.

      Vroiker A. Brinkley, born 1866.

      Jason Brinkley, born 1867.

Jackson's brother, Nathaniel Brinkley, born 1847 was working on Jackson's farm in 1870.

     
Jackson Richard Brinkley was a farmer living in the Holy Neck district and owning 170 acres three miles below Suffolk. He was in the Civil War in the Tom Smith camp of Confederate Veterans.  He was one of the tallest men in that group and was often served at the color bearer. 

Jackson Richard Brinkley died May 12, 1913. He is buried at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.

John Randolph Brinkley, Confederate Soldier, born October 22, 1837, a son of Admiral (1809) and Margaret (Saunders Brinkley.) On March 21, 1861, John R. married Mary Eliza Roundtree, born July 28, 1839.

      Ida F. Brinkley, born 1862.

      Robert W. Brinkley, born 1866.

      Annie Brinkley, born 1868.

      Not named, 2 months old, born 1870.


John R. Brinkley died at his home in Nansemond County, VA in 1884. Mary E. (Roundtree) Brinkley died June 13, 1914.





Hugh Griffin Brinkley (1) A
(1840-1869)

Hugh Griffin Brinkley was born August 15, 1840, a son of Admiral (1809) and Margaret Jane Saunders Brinkley.  He married on June 19, 1867, to Susan Catherine Daughtrey, born 1847.

Children:

      Hugh Griffin Brinkley, Jr., born in 1868.

      Mary Brinkley, born in 1869.

Hugh Griffin Brinkley, Sr., was a member of 41st Virginia Infantry, Co. I, with the rank of 2nd Lt.
In 1867 he was in the Grocery retail business with his younger brother Admiral, born 1850. They were doing business in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Hugh Griffin Brinkley died in 1869.
Susan Catherine (Daughtrey) Brinkley died in 1920.

Dempsey H. Brinkley (1) A
(1848-1895)

Dempsey H. Brinkley, born 1848, died April 18, 1895, a son of Benjamin and Mary E. (Bowen) Brinkley. He married Ada J. Brinkley, born April 3, 1851. They lived at Burgaw, North Carolina.

Children:

       George Dempsey Brinkley, born November 25, 1883, married Mattie Norris and lived at Burgaw, Pender County, North Carolina. George died May 14, 1955.


Dempsey H. Brinkley died April 18, 1895 and is buried at Mt. Holly Baptist Church Cemetery at Burgaw.

Ada J. Brinkley died August 15, 1940 and is buried at Mt. Holly Baptist Cemetery.

Wesley Southerland Brinkley (1) A
(1889-1947)

Wesley Southerland Brinkley, born December 15, 1889, Pender County, a son of Boney Southerland and Hazeltine (Garris) Brinkley. He married (1) Nina Simmons, June 28, 1914, New Hanover County, NC, divorced 1917.

Wesley S. Brinkley married (2) August 23, 1923, New Hanover County, to Annie Thelma Chesnutt, born April 6, 1895 in Pender County.

Annie Thelma (Chestnutt) Brinkley died March 30, 1925 in Sumter, South Carolina. She is buried at Pike Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pender County. Her occupation: Western Union Operator.

Wesley S. died December 14, 1947 Pender County, NC, buried at Pike Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Pender County. He was a WWI Veteran and Worked for a Railroad.
